While this may look good on your trackbacks, if the sites linking to you are not relevant to your subject, it won't have as much of an impact on Google's rankings. :/

You need to know the basics of SEO in order to compete with the other online marketers. There are a lot of link building process which you can do to makeyour site rank well in the major search engines.

I find backlinks to be VERY important especially if they are used correctly. To correctly use backlinks, IMO they need to be targeted and from high traffic / high PR websites.
Doing this will give you a steady flow of targeted quality traffic. This will help lower your bounce rate greatly, and increase pageviews, sales, and overall income
